Day 2, Group 13

A: At the moment, we have a hose that will launch a marble into a funnel to kill time for the first machine. Next we plan to install a mousetrap connected by a series of pulleys and string to a cork, which when yanked out will allow water to flow out of a wine bottle. The water will weigh down a can that will yank a piece of metal which will allow a second marble to roll into the next machine, which is a series of plastic switchbacks the marble will travel along down the side of the board to take up more time. These are the only machines we have on the project as of now but we plan to add different parts to the project including a unique electrical component to go with the golf ball launcher.

B: Obviously, the majority of our simple machines will incorporate a change from potential to kinetic energy with the mousetrap being set to yank the cork out with spring energy being one example. Our electrical component will use a transfer potential electrical energy into both a sound and light energy. We still plan to include different other types of transformations with one in particular involving a free moving object transferring energy from one end of the board to the other.

C: Pascal has been the driving force behind our project in the conceptual phase, offering challenging and complex ideas to incorporate as simple machines. Michael has been incorperating a few ideas of his own including the hose and marble mechanism and has been keeping track of our ideas through paper sketches. I had the idea of an elevator mechanism which eventually evolved to the mousetrap/ wine bottle machine. Nick came up with the idea to have the series of plastic switchbacks running down the side of the board and came up with the materials to accomplish the task.
